Does our General Mood Effect our Dreaming?

Last week a good friend of mine raised an interesting question, whether or not our mood would affect our dreams, now I feel compelled to delve into this topic even further.

Do our dreams mirror what we are sensing in our physical reality during the day?

Do our moods have an impact on our dream state and our dream control?

Do our daily moods and actions reflect what we experience in our dream reality?

I believe that what we experience through the day and how we set our mind can either work for or against us. Our dreams are like sponges; they soak every last thought and emotion especially from the previous day. General thoughts, past emotions, daily emotions etc. are condensed in our dreams for us to learn from.

Intuitive dream knowing...

Through the years, I have found a stunning correlation between feeling positively happy with my general outlook and with my lucid dreaming success rate. When I am happy and choose to act from a state of love for others, and myself I will have a guaranteed spontaneous DILD (Dream Induced Lucid Dream), just by going straight to sleep! I do literally nothing, no mantra, no supplement and no technique! Is it then safe to say that being in a state of constant love is our natural birthright?
More than likely...
For example, one day I'm having a perfect day, everything is going well, I'm thinking from my heart and not my (upper) brain. Just before I retire for the night
I feel a great spiritual sense of waking lucidity, a state of being that can only be described as pure bliss. I then intuitively feel that, with no doubt in my mind, I will have a Lucid Dream that night. Hay-Presto! It works!!

The Science of Love

If we are in a state of love towards others and ourselves, we can be sure we are vibrating at a high frequency within our individual electro magnetic field. This of course works the other way too; remember there are always two sides of a coin. When we are in a place of fear our electro magnetic field will be osculating at a low frequency. Our thoughts are a complete reflection of what we want to attract in our lives. The higher the frequency we vibrate at the more success we have at naturally being Lucid, both in waking reality and our dream reality.

I'm confused and can't remember my dreams!

This is quite common amongst the dreaming community. Myself for example, experienced the famous blank-dream-memory this morning. And Yes, It can even happen to experienced dreamers! Right now my personal life is occupied in trying to find a permanent residence that's suitable for my newborn. So as you can imagine, at times I can be in a state of worry and confusion. Yesterday was one of those days and I went to sleep frustrated and worried. Upon awakening I could not remember any of my dreams at all! Not even one small dream sign!? This is really strange for me as I keep a daily record in my journal. This is highly expected when we are in a place of fear and confusion. Like the graph shown above, yesterday I was vibrating at a lower rate than usual thus making my dream reality invisible. If this is what you are experiencing, don't worry and you should not get into the habit of beating yourself up. There is no denying that our present society is extremely demanding and can cause obvious strain on our emotional magnetic field. But I feel that if we are aware of our state of being, are willing to work on ourselves and think from our hearts instead of our upper brains, then this should work amazingly in our favor. Alternatively if you are in a state of love most of the time and are convinced that you "just don't dream", then this could be a result of how important you think dreams actually are.

Ask yourself now, how important are my dreams?

What's the remedy if I'm in a state of low vibration?

This particular Taoist metaphor speaks wonders to me when trying to understand the true reflection of waking and dreaming. The picture below speaks a thousand words when understanding its true meaning.

If we were to stand above the still crystal blue water, we can see the bottom very clearly, as well as our own reflection staring back at us.
Now, if you were to drop a small pebble that hits the water you would then discover that you could no longer see the bottom. In-fact, you could not even see your own reflection and the water would have turned murky because of the pebble hitting the river floor. You could try and force your eyes to see something, but it would be almost impossible because of the disturbance in the water! This is how our dream/wake realities intertwine. By not disrupting your mind (the water) with small pebbles (fear based thoughts), it allows you to see with great clarity. If we are calm and act from a place of love we get to see our true reflection thus being lucid at all times.
We can quiet our busy minds with the wonderful practice of meditation. It really demands no effort than simply being in a state of peace, eyes open or closed. If you simply sit, breathe deeply and pay close attention to the now, your mind will follow and thus be clear of any external thoughts. This is a wonderful way to calm your waters...
If you don't meditate, now is a great time to start. Try it and see for yourself. Meditation and active dream work go hand in hand.

Are you connected with your Dream Journal?

Are you connected with your Dream Journal? This may sound strange to the person that doesn't really focus on dream studies. They may think, why would I need to connect with just a book? You see, it's not just any book... It is your personal gateway to the other side. Other than your own unique mind holding all of its extravagant dream memories, a dream journal is a physical duplicate of your dreaming adventures. You can access these adventures in waking reality anytime you wish; it will call on you when you need specific answers and maybe when you are confused and alone. Your journal is your faithful companion who will always be there for you.

Through the years of compiling my dream entries I’ve now come to the conclusion that my physical written copies hold more than just great tales of the subconscious mind. What I discovered was the innate ability to see into the future, see past events of my life that needed my immediate attention and I discovered the next step into my spiritual evolution. Consciously connecting and writing those entries enhances my dreaming memory and in superb detail.

The way we organise our dream entries in the form of subheadings can also help with the memories we bring back into the physical world. Below are examples of what you can place into your very own journal.

Subheadings you can include...

'Time Within'

Writing the time it felt during your stay in the dream world can greatly enhance the length of future dreaming. It will program your intention to be lucid longer! Studies have shown that what time you thought you were in the dream was most probably the correct total time you were actually there.

'Title & Date'

Think of a great, quirky title that suits your current dream. This will give greater meaning to your dreams and promote how important they are. Also include a date for your own reference when checking old and new entries.

'Trigger'

This one is my personal favorite. The trigger has a great way in telling your subconscious mind to clue-in on what triggered your lucidity to begin with. At what precise moment did you realise, 'Hey I'm now Lucid'!

'Location/Dreamscape'

What are your surroundings? Describe where you are. Is it a familiar place? A house you used to live in perhaps? Be clear and concise when writing down this information.

'Dream Symbols/Keywords'

I recommend writing under this subheading first when awakening from your dream. Write down, while the entire dream is still fresh in your mind, all of the major objects and keywords that stood out from the rest. This is important for when you decide to decode your dreams at a later time when using a dream dictionary. Did you see any particular colours?  Experience a strong emotion? Execute an action which was very prominent...etc?

'Projections & Spirits'

This one has served me greatly through the years, especially during my early stages of dream exploration when I would seek out for my spirit guide. After a long time searching through lucidity and deciphering which character was which, it all became clear to me and I eventually made that bond with my guide. Be sure to dedicate some dreamtime by asking subconscious characters and spirits who they really are, and why they are with you at this time? By doing such a frequent practice your subconscious will emphasise your awareness in who or what you are interacting with.

'Experience'

This one is self-explanatory. Write down your dream experience in a story form and be creative and detailed with your wording. I tend to write mine in the night straight away from naturally waking up. This usually occurs up to four times during the early hours of the morning for me. I've trained my body to not overlay when the dream finishes. A bit of nighttime discipline goes really far when remembering your dreams memory! Otherwise we may leave out vital information. Alternatively, you can begin with just writing your dream symbols and keywords in the night and then when you wake up properly in the morning you may use them to fill in the blanks of your entire dream experience. I have tried this method for a few months and occasionally revert back to it if I’m extremely tired.

'Conclusion'

This final section is to be completed when you decide to reflect on your dream and decode its true meaning. I personally prefer to decode my dreams the following day whilst it's smoldering in the background. In the morning/early afternoon is a great time because it can set your whole day up and you can think about it during the day. This does not mean that going back to old entries is 'done and dusted' so to speak. All dreams have an infinite supply of information ready for us to use anytime. There has been the odd occasion where I had a question to a particular issue and then I open my journal at a random page only to find that it held the answer I was looking for! This proves that linear time is irrelevant when peering into our world of dreams.

Mysterious Linking between entries

Some avid dreamers out there will discover distinctive correlations and similarities between their entries. I notice myself when reading my journal that common dream symbols repeat themselves and appear in a slightly different manner. The particular dream sign, object, environment or emotion will repeat itself many times until you consciously understand its true meaning. When we hear our dreams and understand them (by decoding and meditating on them) we mustn’t ignore what divine help is being offered. Instead we should take time and decode them so that we can grow our consciousness even more...

L-tryptophan & Galantamine

Last night I combined two of my favorite Lucid Dreaming supplements, L-tryptophan & Galantamine and the results were just simply astonishing!

For those of you that don't know about Galantamine, please check one of my earlier posts here: Link

What is L-Tryptophan?

L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid that helps improve sleep and reduce stress. It acts as a precursor to many neurotransmitters and neurochemicals, including serotonin and melatonin. Melatonin is known to help improve sleep along with improving dream vividness, and serotonin is needed to improve mood and mental health. This type of amino acid is not produced naturally in the body, so L-tryptophan must be provided by a person’s diet or through daily supplements. We can gain more L-tryptophan within our daily diets by ingesting some foods like, Pumpkin Seeds, Dried Dates, Bananas, Peanuts, Poultry and Corn.

The fascinating thing with L-tryptophan is that when taken a couple of hours before you sleep, it will convert to melatonin, which plays a key role in deep sleep and dream recall. This in turn will offer a more vivid experience, especially when bulking up on Vitamin B6 before you sleep. Vitamin B6 is found naturally in Salmon, Cheddar cheese, white rice and milk.

David Wolfe- L-Tryptophan

Here's a quick video about L-tryptophan in greater detail provided by one of the most iconic ambassadors of super health, Mr. David Wolfe. Check him out at the Longevity Conference below:

My Extra-Ordinary Experience

Supplements Taken

2 x capsules (4mg Galantamine/ 200mg Choline per capsule)

2 x capsules (500 mg L-Tryptophan per capsule)

1 x Banana

1 x Slice of Cheese

A few of hours before sleep I consumed one banana and a small slice of cheese, then shortly afterwards I took 1000 mg of L-Tryptophan, being made up of two vegetable capsules. I drank some fresh water too then went to bed. I fell asleep quicker than usual because of the melatonin being released. My body felt heavy and my eyes were solid shut. The first half of the night was made up from an incredibly heavy deep sleep with some REM phases.

The dream content was comprised of the most explicit subconscious reality I have ever experienced! I was in a huge swimming pool the size of an ocean right at the top of a huge incredibly tall skyscraper hotel. I remember feeling extreme vertigo within the dream because the experience was almost too much for me to handle at times! This experience is by far one of the deepest expressions of my subconscious mind, and it’s incredibly fascinating to think that we all have the ability to access this part of ourselves at anytime, if we so wish to. Although it was a ‘non-lucid’ experience to begin with, it was an incredibly real reality to me yet at the same time absurdly unreal. The melatonin was most definitely at play, and it seemed like I was submerged in this deep-dream awareness for what felt like six hours, when in actual reality was two to three hours. (L-Tryptophan has been known to delay wake times, helping insomniacs gain a much longer and deeper sleep).

Upon awakening from this sleep cycle, time distortion was ever present and a feeling like my brain had just ran a huge ‘dream marathon’. I naturally came out of the cycle around 3 am. I felt extremely drowsy, maybe a little too much looking back on the experience! However, this did not stop me from continuing my little dream experiment, besides, being a little drowsy is highly beneficial when taking Galantamine as it makes you more alert and can at times be hard to fall back to sleep.

So, I took the Galantamine capsules after having a quick toilet break and set my usual intention, asking my guide for a safe journey etc, and fell back to sleep, almost instantaneously.

I discovered that the sensations were a little different in comparison to when taking Galantamine/Choline by itself. I got semi-awoken by the usual vibratory sensations all over my body along with mild hypnogogic imagery. But this time I had the added bonus of feeling mild euphoria! This could be a result of the possible conversion into serotonin that assists in elevating one’s mood. It felt wonderful and put me in good stead for my night’s lucid dreaming. As always, when taking Galantamine, I got triggered within the dream (DILD), with the added synergy of extremely high vividness provided by the L-Tryptophan. The LDs lasted much longer than normal and dream control was just above average, not perfect. I transitioned and recycled the Lucid dreams as many times as I possibly could using the DEILD methods (Dream-Exit-Lucid-Dream) where you can see how it’s done in my Dr. Lucid’s- Lucid Dreaming video. I managed to recycle four lucid dreams in total, some of which appeared to be in a computer game like environment; that was extremely strange and fun! In retrospect I would have reduced the amount of L-Tryptophan to 500 mg as opposed to 1000 mg when taken synergistically with Galantamine. This is because I believe it will give the dreamer greater dream control and will help them in being less ‘spacey’ when navigating around the dreamscape. I also felt pretty tired the next morning, but nothing that an afternoon nap couldn’t cure…

All in all, I think this supplement combination gets my upmost thumbs up! So why not give it a try and please share your experiences below!

Namaste.
